Hi! I’m Zohreh Alikhani, and I’d love to share my journey with you—a journey filled with challenges, growth, and moments that shaped me into who I am today.
Let’s start from my teenage years. Those days were full of energy and excitement, but life doesn’t always show its bright side. When I was 19, I entered one of the toughest periods of my life. It was a two-year stretch where I felt completely disconnected—not just from others but even from myself. I barely left my room during that time, sinking deeper into isolation every day.
I tried to focus on my studies, but concentrating was a constant struggle. Even finishing two pages of a book felt impossible. As someone who had always loved learning, this was heartbreaking for me. I felt empty, like something was missing. My counselor suggested I find something that would genuinely make me happy—something creative, like art.
One day, a very close friend of mine, Tamara, invited me to be a makeup model for her beauty class. The moment I stepped into that studio, I felt something awaken inside me, like a spark in the dark. That same day, I told my mom I wanted to learn makeup artistry.
My First Steps in Beauty
When I decided to take beauty seriously, I started from the basics. I joined a professional beauty academy and learned everything step by step. Each new skill felt like discovering a new world.
- Makeup: I learned how to create flawless looks tailored to every skin type, from color matching to contouring techniques.
- Updos: Styling hair into intricate updos was challenging at first, but with practice, it became one of my favorite creative outlets.
- Haircuts: I gained precision and confidence in cutting hair, creating styles that brought out the best in each client.
- Coloring and Highlights: One of the most in-demand skills in the beauty industry, and I invested time to master it. I learned how to mix and match colors for stunning, personalized results.
My First Steps in Beauty
After completing my courses, I stepped into the real world. I started working at a local salon, and little by little, I built my confidence. I realized how much I loved connecting with people and the joy of making them feel beautiful.
Over time, I enrolled in advanced courses and got familiar with various professional brands. I learned to work with high-end products and incorporated innovative techniques into my work—some of which were brand-new in Iran at the time. Every day felt like an opportunity to grow, and it only made me love what I do even more.
Where I Am Today
It’s been 21 years since those early days. Looking back, I see how much I’ve grown in this field. From working at different salons and learning new trends to opening my own salon, every step of the journey has been a lesson. Even during the difficult days of COVID, when the world was upside down, I found ways to adapt and turn challenges into opportunities.
Now, I’m in a new chapter of my life. I’ve taken a big leap and moved to Toronto to start fresh. Migration has always been a dream of mine, and being here has filled me with energy and determination. While there are new challenges ahead, I feel ready to embrace them with love and passion.
Beauty as an Art of Living
For me, beauty isn’t just a profession; it’s a part of my soul. Every time I pick up a brush or style someone’s hair, I feel like I’m celebrating life. Seeing the smile on someone’s face when they look in the mirror is the most rewarding feeling.
